Tasting Notes
Vinous – 92
The 2012 La Moulyere is rich, racy and extroverted to the core. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, spice and licorice are fused together in a rich, super-inviting wine endowed with terrific mid-palate pliancy and terrific overall balance. The 2012 is a winner from proprietor Silvio Denz and winemaker Michel Rolland. La Moulyere emerges from a one-hectare parcel that lies next to Faugères and Cap de Faugères. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. This is a fabulous, overachieving wine that shows what is possible in Castillion. I loved it.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2024
Robert Parker – 91-93
This estate’s luxury cuvee, the 2012 La Mouleyre is a spectacular effort, although very limited in production (200 cases). Owner Silvio Denz has reduced the yields of this 2.5-acre parcel, planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, to an absurdly low 20 hectoliters per hectare. The alcohol finished at 14%. A wine of classified growth intensity, it boasts a dense purple color along with a wonderful smoky nose revealing aromas of asphalt, camphor, black currant liqueur, lead pencil shavings and white chocolate. This is a superb, long, rich, full-bodied wine that over-performs dramatically for its appellation and price. Drink it over the next 8-12 years.
Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025
