Tasting Notes
JancisRobinson.com – 15.5
Leathery and savoury with astute oak spice. There’s no greenness, but the black fruit is borderline underripe, very lean and bitter. Waspish. A few hints of smoke. Lacks lusciousness, but that might be a relief for traditionalists? (RH)

Its bigger sister, the well-made 2011 Calon Segur boasts a dense ruby/purple color, sweet cassis and black cherry fruit intermixed with hints of earth, oak and spice, medium body, moderate tannin, a pure mouthfeel and a long finish. Give it 3-4 years of bottle age and enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.

Vinous – 90
Bright, deep ruby. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, licorice and spices are complicated by a note of torrefaction. Tight, juicy and intense, showing a floral blackcurrant flavor but little in the way of flesh today. Finishes pure and long. This minerally, floral wine is in need of at least four or five years of bottle aging, but I like its precision and purity.
